Every year the selection of the WORLD AWARD winners presents itself as quite a challenge for the International Jury. On the one hand you have laureates who are chosen based on their achievements and accomplishments over the course of the current year and on the other, those for their long-term contributions in their chosen career as well as to society at large. They, however, all are people who have shown concern for others in their commitment to a better world regardless of the fact if they are renown personalities or just average people doing their best in their immediate environment, thereby being important real-life role models for millions around the globe.

The selection of the WORLD AWARD winners follows a five-step procedure:

STEP 1: SEARCHING FOR THE BEST
Over approximately a 12-month period the WORLD AWARDS Editorial Board observes important occurrences around the world. It locates and researches the activities of women – well-known, or virtually unknown – who have, over the course of the past year as well as over the course of time, achieved a great deal and are having a positive impact on our world. The WORLD AWARDS Editorial Board then compiles a list of extraordinary women who deserve to be honored containing all relevant information, which is then forwarded to the WORLD AWARDS Committee.

The committee currently consists of 10 individuals, including WORLD AWARDS President Mikhail Gorbachev, WORLD AWARDS Founder and Chairman Georg Kindel and opinion-leaders from different fields, e.g. Prof. Dr. Helmut Thoma, Emmy-award winning founder and former CEO of RTL Television, Europe’s leading television network.

The WORLD AWARDS Committee then makes a preliminary shortlist in each category with further personalities added by the recommendation of the WORLD AWARDS Committee. This initial shortlist includes prominent women as well as those who are not necessarily in the international limelight. Yet all have made important contributions to our world – women whose work serves as an inspiration.

STEP 2: THE NOMINATIONS BY THE COMMITTEE
A few months before the WOMEN’S WORLD AWARDS event the WORLD AWARDS Committee meets for the final selection process at which all candidates and their accomplishments are reviewed and discussed. These discussions then lead to the final shortlist. The WORLD AWARDS Committee selects, in a difficult process of elimination, up to 6 nominees in each award category, which is then presented to the international WORLD AWARDS Jury.

STEP 3: THE VOTING OF THE JURY
The WORLD AWARDS Committee nominees’ list is sent to the International Jury members. It is now time for each jury member to make his/her choice in each category – often a difficult decision. The voting of each individual jury member remains confidential and only the final result is made public.

STEP 4: THE FINAL RESULT
After the votes have been counted the President of the WORLD AWARDS, Mikhail Gorbachev, is informed of the outcome.

STEP 5: THE ANNOUNCEMENT OF THE NEW LAUREATES
The winners are announced to the international press.
