When acclaimed Austrian journalist Georg Kindel started writing a book about
the situation of men in the new millennium he also had a vision: By improving
the attitudes and changing the role of men in society, our world could be
a better one.
“The Man 2000”, written in cooperation with two medical doctors, became
an international bestseller, translated into 19 languages and served as
the basis for the WORLD AWARDS idea. The book was number one for 38 consecutive
weeks on the Austrian bestseller list. In 351 fascinating pages the future
of man and his development in the new millennium is investigated. The book
shows how men function, what they suffer from and what helps them. It’s
a book that is important to men – yet includes things women should know:
Why do I age? What can I do to prevent it? How do hormones control my life?
Can human cells be immortal? But the book also presented totally new facts
to questions surrounding the connection between men and violence, including
a study by Prof. Rolf-Dieter Hesch of the University of Constance (Germany)
that the testosterone influenced brain of men is the main reason for his
violent nature. It is also the reason that women would never be capable
of such violence and brutality.
Due to the astounding success of the book it became clear to Georg Kindel,
father of twins, that men and violence as well as peace and tolerance are
essential issues of our times. There was, and is, much to be done to in
order to provoke a change in men’s thinking, attitudes and transform the
image and role of men in society.
ESTABLISHING MEN’S WORLD DAY.
Mr. Kindel asked the United Nations in Vienna for their support for a new
initiative and finally, with the aid of various humanitarian organizations,
November 3rd was proclaimed as the annual MEN’S WORLD DAY. It is not conceived
as a day to celebrate men but rather a day of introspection, self-criticism
as well as a day of inspiration and strength in order to help change the
world for the better. Georg Kindel: “I wanted to show that there are many
men, who have had a positive influence on our world and to put them on center
stage. This is how the idea to the WORLD AWARDS came about”.
